Elders’ Update #6/2021

Tuesday, 29 June 2021
Beloved GBC family,
Greetings in the Name of our Saviour who holds sway over all rulers and authorities.
You will have heard or read that the President announced on Sunday evening the imposition of further regulations and restrictions on our normal freedoms in an effort to curtail the spread of a more virulent strain of the COVID 19 virus during the so-called third wave.
Once again, all gatherings – including for religious purposes – are expressly prohibited; at present only for a two-week period but which in all likelihood will be extended until the rate of new infections declines.
Our position and response in these circumstances is to submit to the authorities, and consequently, in-person services and meetings at the church will be discontinued.
We have decided to livestream (or video record and upload) the sermon at the normal time only on Sunday mornings; Martin will pause the Revelation series, continuing his exposition of Psalm 119 or other messages.
Evening services will be suspended until restrictions are lifted, and we are able to gather again in person for worship. We would encourage husbands and fathers to make particular use of the opportunity on a Sunday evening to lead family worship in their homes.
We are aware that some in the congregation strongly feel the need to continue to hold small gatherings in their homes for corporate worship. The Elders would view this as a private matter and not as an act of rebellion; we would encourage each individual to act in accordance with the dictates of his or her conscience, remembering that we are each to give account to God.
Brothers and sisters, we exhort you to walk in the Spirit and to guard your hearts; to let your speech be only that which is good for building up, and to continue to be faithful in prayer – for one another, for the church in South Africa and the world, for our government, and that God in his mercy would remove or restrain the pandemic.
“Let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up.
So then, as we have opportunity, let us do good to everyone, and especially to those who are of the household of faith’. Gal. 6.9,10
The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all,
The Elders
