Our song of the month for June is “When Morning Gilds the Sky“. The hymn draws on a wide range of Psalms and New Testament passages to exhort and encourage us to thank the Lord for the privilege of prayer; His presence and protection; and promised grace found in the gospel. Thus, in all of life, let the prayer of our heart be “May Jesus Christ be praised!”
When Morning Gilds the Sky
Verse 1
When morning gilds the sky,
our hearts awaking cry:
May Jesus Christ be praised!
in all our work and prayer
we ask His loving care:
May Jesus Christ be praised!
Verse 2
To God, the Word on high,
the hosts of angels cry:
May Jesus Christ be praised!
Let mortals too upraise
their voice in hymns of praise:
May Jesus Christ be praised!
Verse 3
Does sadness fill my mind?
A solace here I find,
May Jesus Christ be praised!
The night becomes as day
When from the heart we say,
May Jesus Christ be praised!
Verse 4
When evil thoughts molest,
With this I shield my breast,
May Jesus Christ be praised!
The powers of darkness fear,
When this sweet chant they hear,
May Jesus Christ be praised!
Verse 5
Sing, suns and stars of space,
Sing, ye that see His face,
May Jesus Christ be praised!
God’s whole creation o’er,
Both now and evermore
May Jesus Christ be praised!
Verse 6
Ye nations of mankind,
In this your concord find,
May Jesus Christ be praised!
Let all the earth around
Ring joyous with the sound,
May Jesus Christ be praised!
